Scratch with 6-12 yr olds!

On June 29th my co-workers in the Children’s Department and I are running a Scratch program for children ranging in age from 6-12. I haven’t run a program with participants quite this young. This change has come as a result of meeting two phenomenal nine year olds, pacsponge and flimflamjj. They took to Scratch more quickly than my teens and have made some really great programs in the process.

Any suggestions/experiences working with younger Scratchers?

Yup! We sure do. I think there are only nine microphones, but we could set up a 'center'. Hmmm, thanks!

I can't remember, do you guys have the capacity to do voice recording? I've helped out with 5-6yr olds doing this and it was a big success........also with Kent.

We've worked with young Scratchrs quite a bit -some 6 and 7 year-olds need more attention - it might be good to have activities that take advantage of the paint tools,
and as well its great to do the double-click, set the xy coordinate and grab a glide to: x, y block - if you do this multiple times you can quickly create amazing simple animations... we learned this from Kent at the Museum Magnet School while working with Kindergartners.
